NEW FOR 2020 IS A GENEALOGY RESEARCH TRIP TO

MAINLAND ORKNEY

The tour is scheduled for May 24-31, 2020. The tour will be based in Kirkwall. Arrival will be on the Sunday and check out on the following Sunday. Three days will be dedicated to genealogy research.

This will give you a couple of free days to just enjoy Orkney. Kirkwall has the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. I will organize two day trips - one around the west of the mainland where you can see the Standing Stones at Stenness and Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae and Skaill House.

The second trip will be around the eastern part of the Island and will include the Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel and Maes Howe chambered cairn.

The tour fees are $2995 canadian. This includes:

  • 3 days of research at the Orkney Library/Orkney Archives/Orkney FHS
  • Hotel and breakfast
  • Tour of West Mainland: Skara Brae, Skaill House, Ring of Brodgar, Stones of Stenness
  • Tour of East Mainland: Italian Chapel, Churchill Barriers
  • Historic Scotland Pass (entry to Skara Brae/Skaill House, Bishop's Palace, Maes Howe
  • Time to tour Kirkwall and Stromness

*each person is responsible for getting to and from Kirkwall on their own. Airfare and transport between the airport and hotel are not included.

**Non researching companions/spouses/family members are welcome to join us for $1275 Canadian. This includes their extra fee to the hotel and their Historic Scotland Pass as well as the two day tours.

***If you wish to see Orkney but NOT research, you will be charged the full researcher fees. The discount applies because of a second person in the hotel room.

Part of the logistics of an Orkney tour is the lack of public transit. We will be traveling by large passenger van that I will drive. If this is not something you would be comfortable with, please do NOT register for the tour.
