Sunday – meet and greet in the hotel meeting room at 6:30 pm. Group assignments and overview of the week, refresher of where to find an ATM, post office, pharmacy etc.
Monday – 8:45 am - meet in the hotel lobby to head to ScotlandsPeople Centre for a full day of research. The National Records of Scotland are upstairs and can also be accessed today. However, please note that most holdings are OFF site so anything that needs to get retrieved won't actually be available today. However, you can have it reserved for you for tomorrow.
** If I have my calculations correct, there SHOULD be a monthly meeting of the Scottish Genealogy Society and if so, we will meet in the lobby again at 7 pm to walk over to the talk. Confirmation on this in the fall as the SGS has not yet released it's 2019/2020 roster.
Tuesday – 8:45 am - meet in the hotel lobby to head to ScotlandsPeople Centre for a full day of research. The National Records of Scotland are upstairs and can also be accessed today.
6:20 pm - meet in the hotel's meeting room for a talk by the NHS Lothians Archivist who will give a presentation on their holdings and how to access them. Non researchers are most welcome to join us.
Wednesday – Today the group will be split into two. Group A will walk over to the National Library at 9 am (be in the lobby for 8:50) for a day of research. Please note that there will be no talk this time, but the talk will be provided to you in webinar form in the next couple of months. It has been pre-recorded so you can access it when it is convenient for you.
Group B will meet in the hotel lobby at 10:15 am to walk over to the Scottish Genealogy Society.
6:40 pm - meet in the lobby to head to Holyrood Park where we will meet Robert of Historic Edinburgh Tours. Robert will give us a guided tour of the Cannongate area of Edinburgh. In its day, this was a separate part of the city, accessible through a gate in the city's wall. This tour is optional and will be an additional expense of about £10, payable at the meet and greet. Non researchers are most welcome to join us. The tours usually last about 2 hours.
Thursday – Today we trade places with Group A going to the Scottish Genealogy Society for 10:15 am and Group B going to the NLS for 9 am.
6:30 pm – we will meet in the hotel’s meeting room to hear a talk by the Archivist from Edinburgh City Archives
Friday – We will be back at ScotlandsPeople/the NRS today for our final day of research. We will meet in the hotel lobby at 8:45 am.
I am proposing a group dinner to end our week together at Howie's on Waterloo street at the foot of Calton Hill. The building is the former Burgess Guildhall. There is also a Howie's on Victoria Street which is very atmospheric with old rock walls and wooden floors. I will go with the majority. The dinner will be pay as you go and is open to non researchers as well. Please plan to join us.
